Now HTC’s Bootloader Unlock is available for users who have been waiting to unlock their HTC android phones to enjoy custom ROM and other goodies. European HTC Sensation were the first phone to support unlock process. HTC just announced on their Facebook page that the latest OTA firmware update for the Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D brings support to use HTC’s unlock tool for unlocking bootloader.

If you’re still not aware of the latest software version, be sure to check update manually by going to Settings –> System Updates –> Firmware Update. Once you are done with the update head over to  HTC developer site, read carefully and make sure you understand the process completely before you begin. Go to fastboot ( Power + VOL UP)
Execute with HTC Unlock Tool

You need :
Java Runtime is needed think it's JDK something along those lines
ADB and download the tools for it
HTC sync

After you got an unlocked EVO 3D you might want to install one of these most popular Android custom ROM: CyanogenMod 7 ROM or MIUI ROM.
